Collection: ERICA READE

“Feeling very trapped by the confines of my apartment and our new reality, I took a favorite mirror and some fruit to my rooftop to alleviate my boredom and anxiety, and tap into my creativity. The result was an unintentional 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade' feeling to my fruit series.”

  • ARTIST STATEMENT

“'Reflected' began as a photo experiment with mirrors at the beach a few years ago. I became fixated with creating reflections, portals and double takes into other worlds with mirrors. Once the pandemic hit, the idea of reflection took on a lot more meaning. Feeling very trapped by the confines of my apartment and our new reality, I took a favorite mirror and some fruit to my rooftop to alleviate my boredom and anxiety, and tap into my creativity. The result was an unintentional 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade' feeling to my fruit series. Bright, tart fruit set against the rough, black tar roof very much spoke to a dark present and distant more optimistic future.”
